Nov. 3: Research Data Series: Managing Data in Excel
2:30-3:30 p.m., Virtual
Good data organization is the foundation of any project. Many people, whether engaging in research or doing everyday tasks, begin with data in spreadsheets. We organize data in spreadsheets in the ways that we as humans want to work with the data, but computers require that data be organized in particular ways.
In this workshop, you will learn:
recommended data entry practices,
how to avoid common formatting mistakes,
approaches for handling dates in spreadsheets, and
fundamental quality control and data manipulation in spreadsheets.

Students are invited to learn more about the second annual UNLV President's Innovation Challenge, a multidisciplinary team competition that encourages social and business entrepreneurship to help solve major challenges. Nov. 4: Project Planning and Management
10-11 a.m., Virtual
This workshop will teach participants how to maintain an organized project by ensuring that everyone in the group has clarified working relationships, responsibilities, and decision-making authority. Participants will hear about the tools they can use to create easily distinguishable goals, roles, and processes, while simultaneously building trust in a group’s abilities to accomplish a successful project!

First-Generation Celebration Week
The UNLV Graduate College is proud to participate in UNLV's 2022 First-Generation Celebration Week. The Graduate College will host a mixer and panel discussion, celebratory bash, and breakout sessions on Nov. 9 and 10 for both graduate and undergraduate students. Student Support Spot for Basic Needs Challenges Open
UNLV's new Student Support Spot is open. The Student Support Spot provides free food packages; toiletry items; and guidance to students facing basic needs challenges (food, housing, transportation, mental health, child care, and digital access). Located in the University Gateway Building in the Welcome Center on the second floor, the Student Support Spot is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Learn more.
Thesis/Dissertation Office Hours
Students with questions about their thesis or dissertation can take advantage of the Graduate College's thesis and dissertation office hours every Tuesday and Thursday from 12-2 p.m. Email grad.td@unlv.edu at least 48 hours in advance to schedule a virtual appointment. Learn more.

Before you know it, the spring semester will be here! Start planning your class schedule now to be ready when spring registration opens on Nov. 7, 2022. Log in to MyUNLV and click on the enrollment tile to view your registration window. Remember to also check the tasks tile for important notifications and any to-do list items.
Nov. 21: President’s Innovation Challenge Participant Interest Form Deadline
Participate in the 2nd annual UNLV President's Innovation Challenge, a multidisciplinary team competition that encourages social and business entrepreneurship to help solve major challenges in Southern Nevada and beyond, for a chance at winning a prize from the $50,000 total prize pool. This year’s challenge, which will culminate in the spring with a showcase event, focuses on sustainability but is not limited to science and engineering! Imagine a new communication platform to raise awareness of carbon impact or a game-based learning product to educate children on environmental sustainability or anything in between.

Join the Graduate College for the final round of the Rebel Grad Slam 3-Minute Thesis Competition, which challenges students to a 3-minute/1-slide presentation to showcase their research to the audience and judges in a condensed and compelling way.
