Oct. 3: Getting Started with ORCID

This hands-on workshop will help you understand the benefits of ORCID and how to populate your profile and maximize its impact. This workshop will help you learn the benefits of researcher IDs, specifically ORCID iDs; create an ORCID profile (if you don't already have one); and enhance your ORCID profile by populating it with your background, research, and other scholarly activity.

Oct. 4: Assertiveness Training and Conflict Management
Conflict between colleagues can cause a ripple effect across the office that negatively impacts the workplace culture and climate. Healthy conflict management can lead to a more cooperative, productive, and safe workspace. By attending this workshop, you will learn to improve these skills. You will also learn techniques for honoring the position, emotions, and needs of both yourself and others during a conflict.

Student Support Spot for Basic Needs Challenges Now Open
UNLV's new Student Support Spot is now open. The Student Support Spot provides free food packages; toiletry items; and guidance to students facing basic needs challenges (food, housing, transportation, mental health, child care, and digital access). Located in the University Gateway Building in the Welcome Center on the second floor, the Student Support Spot is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Learn more.

Thesis/Dissertation Office Hours
Students with questions about their thesis or dissertation can take advantage of the Graduate College's thesis and dissertation office hours every Tuesday and Thursday from 12-2 p.m. Email grad.td@unlv.edu at least 48 hours in advance to schedule a virtual appointment. Learn more.

Outstanding Thesis/Dissertation and Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Awards are Open for Nominations
The Graduate College is now accepting nominations for the Outstanding Thesis/Dissertation Awards and the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award. Each academic college may nominate one outstanding thesis, one outstanding dissertation, and one outstanding graduate student teacher. Nominations are due Dec. 1. Rebel Grad Slam 3-Minute Thesis Competition
Think you can present your research in just three minutes using one slide? Participate in the Graduate College's Rebel Grad Slam 3-Minute Thesis Competition, where graduate students compete to win over the judges and audience for a chance at scholarship money. This year's weeklong competition will take place Oct. 31-Nov. 4. Learn more and apply by Oct. 17.
To help presenters prepare for the competition, the Graduate College on Oct. 11 will host a virtual workshop that will cover strategies for streamlining important aspects of your research, designing a slide that will stand out, and presentation pitfalls and successes. Oct. 4: Preparing to Vote: Researching Ballot Questions and Local Candidates for Beginners
During an election cycle, we tend to be more focused on the big-name candidates and can sometimes forget that there are also local issues on the ballot. It can be overwhelming to sift through the mass amounts of information surrounding ballot issues and local candidates.
Join us to discuss some of the issues that will be on the Nevada ballot in November and identify strategies to learn more about them. Learn more.
Grad Fest (formerly known as Senior Send-Off) is a one-stop shopping experience for everything related to graduation. At the event, graduating students can purchase their cap and gowns, graduation announcements and invitations, class rings, diploma frames, and much more. Graduating students will have the opportunity to learn about the UNLV Alumni Association and receive their free alumni T-shirt and refreshments (while supplies last). Learn more.
Oct. 6: Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities UNLV Internship Information Session
Representatives from the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) will be visiting campus to present two student sessions on federal internship opportunities. Internship opportunities are available across multiple functions, including STEM, political science, public administration, and more. While Latinx students are strongly encouraged to apply, the HACU National Internship Program is open to all students. These are competitive paid internships in Washington, D.C. and virtual for spring and summer.
