Sept. 12: Transitioning to Graduate School: Finding Your Why
12-1 p.m., Virtual
This workshop will investigate the motivations for pursuing a graduate degree. Students will learn about motivations for graduate school that have been found in previous literature and use this to explore their own personal motives. Attendees will examine their expectations of their graduate degree and consider why they chose to enroll in a graduate degree. Learn more and RSVP.
Sept. 13: Graduate & Professional Student Association (GPSA) Sponsorship Program Workshop
Graduate and professional students at UNLV are eligible for up to $2,500 for research, travel, project material, and professional development expenses through GPSA's sponsorship program. These grants are highly competitive, and this workshop will provide attendees with information that will help them create a fundable application. During this workshop, the Sponsorship Committee will provide information about awards, deadlines, the selection process, eligibility, and tips for creating a great application. Learn more.
Sept. 13: U.S. Department of State: Student Programs Information Session
The U.S. Department of State offers careers, internships, and fellowships for students and alumni from all academic backgrounds, including engineering, information technology, international affairs, operations and management, law enforcement, and much more. Diplomat in Residence for the Southwest, Antoinette Hurtado, will be on campus Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 12-2 p.m. to talk about State Department careers and student programs. Join the session to learn more and see if this might be the right path for you. U.S. citizenship is required.

Sept. 14: General Safety & Crime Prevention Presentation
10-11 a.m., Virtual
University Police Services officers want to provide useful and beneficial information to keep students, faculty, and staff members safe on their campuses. In this presentation, officers will discuss safety tips for on-campus living, theft and robbery, active assailant situations, cybersecurity, and how to stay connected with University Police Services by downloading the mobile safety apps for the College of Southern Nevada; the Desert Research Institute; Nevada State University; and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Exclusive Workspaces for Graduate and Professional Students
Graduate and professional students are welcome to use the Gateway Graduate Commons and the Lied Graduate Commons, which offer computer labs, copiers, scanners, printers, office supplies, dry erase boards, kitchens, and more. The Lied Graduate Commons also offers a small conference room for meetings and study groups on a reservation basis.
The final day to waive out of the student health insurance for 2023-24 is Sept. 15, 2023. Students must complete a waiver once every academic year. Waivers completed in previous years will not carry over. If students do not complete a new waiver for the 2023-24 academic year, the charge will remain on their account, they will be enrolled in the student health insurance, and they will be required to pay the cost for student health insurance. Hosted by Service Learning & Leadership's HOPE Resources and Student Diversity Programs, this event connects students to the skills and knowledge needed to complete a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program application, with additional food insecurity resources from the community available. The GPSA supports graduate and professional students with their academic endeavors, advocates on their behalf, and inculcates a sense of camaraderie. The GPSA Council consists of 47 seats for representatives from each academic department and an unlimited number of non-voting seats for members-at-large (no department affiliation). The GPSA Council convenes regularly, typically on the first Thursday of each month. Learn more.

toiletry items, and guidance to students facing basic
needs challenges (food, housing, transportation, mental
health, child care, and digital access). The Student Support Spot, located in the University Gateway Building’s 2nd floor Welcome Center, is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Learn more.
