Nov. 7: Emotional Intelligence and Resolving Challenges

Emotional intelligence (EI) powerfully shapes our long-term health, relationships, and productivity. In a nutshell, EI is three separate but related abilities: recognizing and regulating your emotions; discerning the emotions of other people and empathizing with them; and using abilities one and two to communicate effectively and build healthy, mutually beneficial relationships with other people. By participating in this workshop you will
learn about EI,
strategies for empathizing with others, and
how to overcome challenges and defuse conflict.

Nov. 8: Non-Academic Job Offer and Salary Negotiation
4-5 p.m., Virtual
Participants in this workshop will: understand non-academic job offers from a variety of employment sectors, including what you should do when you receive a job offer and how to evaluate one; learn strategies for how to negotiate your job offer to better set you up for success; learn when it is most appropriate to bring up salary negotiations; and discuss what items are more negotiable than others.

Take What You Need Event
On Nov. 15, UNLV will offer a Take What You Need event where UNLV community members can secure basic needs items such as toiletries and personal hygiene products, non-perishable food, clothing, bedding and other linens, etc. The event will take place in Student Union 208 A&B from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Donations are also accepted. Before you know it, the spring semester will be here! Start planning your class schedule now to be ready when spring registration opens on Nov. 7, 2022. Log in to MyUNLV and click on the enrollment tile to view your registration window. Remember to also check the tasks tile for important notifications and any to-do list items.
Nevada Science Olympiad Event Supervisors
Organizers of the Nevada Science Olympiad, which will take place at UNLV on Saturday, March 25, 2023, are looking for graduate students to serve as event supervisors. Students can serve as event supervisors for up to two events and will earn $250 per event. Learn more and sign up to be an event supervisor.
Nov. 21: President’s Innovation Challenge Participant Interest Form Deadline
Participate in the 2nd annual UNLV President's Innovation Challenge, a multidisciplinary team competition that encourages social and business entrepreneurship to help solve major challenges in Southern Nevada and beyond, for a chance at winning a prize from the $50,000 total prize pool. This year’s challenge, which will culminate in the spring with a showcase event, focuses on sustainability but is not limited to science and engineering! Imagine a new communication platform to raise awareness of carbon impact or a game-based learning product to educate children on environmental sustainability or anything in between.

Join the Graduate College for a First-Gen Mixer and Panel. You will have the opportunity to meet other first-gen undergraduate students, graduate students, and first-gen faculty and get to know the first-gen community at the UNLV Graduate College. There will also be a first-gen experience panel discussion featuring members of the UNLV community. Food will be served. Those who are unable to join in person can join virtually.
