March 7: Publishing Your Research in Graduate School

One skill that can be critical to the success of a graduate student is the ability to publish. Good academic research strives to increase and develop the amount of tested and reviewed scholarship available on any given subject. It is based on critical thought, extensive research, and analytical writing. By attending this workshop, you will learn how to get published as a graduate student, learn about the publishing process, and receive tips for getting published in academia. March 8: De-Mystifying the IRB: Tips for Successful IRB Review

This workshop will introduce the UNLV Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), ethical principles, and regulations that oversee human subjects research. Attendees will learn about the IRB protocol review process and how to navigate the Cayuse IRB submission system. Learn more and register.

The thought of interviewing may seem daunting, but the key to nailing an interview is being prepared. Preparation includes learning about the company, practicing communicating your strengths, and thinking about what questions to ask the interviewer. Minority Serving Institution Graduate Student Open Access Fund
The Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Student Council and the UNLV University Libraries are pleased to announce that funds to support graduate students publishing in open access journals are now available. The purpose of this MSI Graduate Student Open Access Fund initiative is to facilitate UNLV's recently attained standard of very high research activity among graduate students. Although this initiative aims to help promote publishing activity among minority and historically underrepresented students, the scope of this initiative is open to all graduate students with a demonstrable financial need and inability to meet article publishing costs within peer-reviewed open access journals. Grad Rebel Advantage program in which graduate students can mentor undergraduate students preparing for graduate school.
March 15: GPSA Travel & Research Sponsorship Deadline for Travel in May, June, and July
The GPSA offers each graduate and professional student sponsorship funding of $1,250 annually. These funds can be used for research, travel to events or conferences, or other scholarly activities. Proposals should have a direct effect on the student’s academic success and make a contribution to their field. All who receive GPSA sponsorship funding will present their progress at the 24th Annual Graduate & Professional Student Research Forum on April 2. Learn more and apply.
March 18: Custom Academic Regalia Deadline
If you're graduating with a doctoral degree and would like to purchase custom academic regalia through the UNLV Bookstore, the deadline to submit an order is March 18. Please order as soon as possible for the best chance at receiving your regalia on time.
UNLV is hosting a career fair March 8-10 in the Student Union Ballroom. Each day's fair will last from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. March 8 will feature law and public sector employers, March 9 will feature employers from all industries, and March 10 will feature STEM employers. March 10: Annual Phi Kappa Phi Faculty Lecture Showcase
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi invites you to its Annual Lecture Showcase. This year's showcase features Dr. Michael Green from UNLV's Department of History. Dr. Green will deliver his lecture, "Organized Crime and Las Vegas: Myth, Reality, and Somewhere In-Between," at the Marjorie Barrick Museum at 4 p.m. on March 10, with a mixer starting before the lecture at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. April 1: 7th Annual Inspiration, Innovation, Impact: A Celebration of Graduate Student Research
The Inspiration, Innovation, Impact event showcases the best in UNLV graduate student research. The Graduate College invites you to join us to see a select group of outstanding graduate students from a variety of colleges giving short, five-minute, TED-style talks or performances. Inspiration, Innovation, Impact will take place April 1 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Learn more and RSVP by March 25.
April 6: President's Innovation Challenge
How do we make Las Vegas’ economy more resilient, diversified, and sustainable? Join the UNLV Office of Economic Development, Black Fire Innovation, and the UNLV Graduate College on April 6 at 4 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Strip View Pavilion for the inaugural President's Innovation Challenge, where you’ll hear teams of students present their innovative solutions to this question. A panel of judges will select winners and award prizes, including $20,000 for the winning team. Learn more and RSVP by April 4.
UNLV Wellness Zone
The UNLV Wellness Zone, located on the second floor of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, is UNLV’s holistic, integrated wellness resource for the UNLV campus community. As a part of the Department of Wellness Promotion with Campus Recreation, the Wellness Zone promotes healthy behaviors through evidence-based programming with measurable goals, campus-wide events, peer education, and the dissemination of relevant health information and resources to encourage lifelong personal wellness through best practices. Services include: targeted wellness programming, certified peer education training, wellness assessments, personal training, free wellness supplies and resources, and a relaxation room with automated massage chairs.
