April 13: Preparing for Life Post-Graduate School: Exploring Nonacademic Career Pathways and Translating Your Skill Set to Prospective Employers
1-2 p.m., Virtual
This workshop is designed to help graduate students better understand the various career pathways that are available to them after they finish their advanced degree, including how to find where nonacademic jobs are posted. Related to this, a common question many graduate students ask is, “How do I prove to my prospective employer that I am qualified, even though I lack direct industry experience outside of the academy?” The key is learning how to translate the skills, knowledge, and abilities gained in graduate school to a broad audience.

Congratualtions to team Esenjays for winning the inaugural President's Innovation Challenge! When tasked with making Las Vegas' economy more resilient, sustainable, and diversified, team Esenjays - Shaimaa Abdelhaleem (Geoscience), Jacob Gross (Accounting), Jonathan Kim (MBA and Quantitative Finance), & G Liu (Finance) - presented a winning plan for an indoor, vertical microgreens farm.

May 13: Deadline to Apply to STEM Culturally Relevant and Responsive Teaching (CRRT) Fellowship
Graduate teaching assistants in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are invited to apply to participate in the Culturally Relevant and Responsive Teaching (CRRT) Fellows Program for 2022-23. This yearlong fellowship will introduce graduate teaching assistants to best practices around serving an increasingly racially and ethnically diverse student body. Graduate teaching assistants interested in developing classroom practices that promote inclusion and equity are encouraged to apply. Participants will be selected through an application process, and preference will be given to those teaching critical transition courses in STEM. The graduate fellow stipend is $1,000. Apply by Friday, May 13, 2022.
May 13: Commencement - Doctoral, Master's, Specialist, Artist Diploma, Graduate Certificates
The spring 2022 commencement ceremony for all candidates for doctoral, master’s, specialist, artist diploma degrees, and graduate certificates will be held on Friday, May 13 at 4 p.m. in the Thomas & Mack Center. Tickets are not required to attend. The ceremony will also be livestreamed. Learn more.
"What’s the 411 on the new 988 hotline? 5 questions answered about a national mental health service"
Established by Congress and the Federal Communications Commission, the 988 Lifeline has the goal of addressing longstanding concerns in mental health care. In this article for "The Conversation," Derek Lee, a Ph.D. student at The Ohio State University in Counselor Education & Supervision and a therapist, answers five common questions about 988 Lifeline, which will roll out its services on July 16, 2022. According to Lee, 988 Lifeline is for "anyone who needs help with their mental health, particularly people in crisis." Read more.
