Feb. 9: Citation Manager Showdown: Comparing Mendeley, RefWorks, and Zotero

This workshop will provide students with information on how to utilize citation management software. Learn how to organize PDFs and automatically make formatted bibliographies. Find out whether RefWorks, Zotero, or Mendeley will be the best fit for your needs. Discover the benefits of using a citation manager and identify the strengths and weaknesses of these three programs.

Free Tax Services Available to the UNLV Community
UNLV's Department of Accounting is offering free tax preparation services through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program until April 15. The virtual program is certified by the Internal Revenue Service and is available to UNLV students, faculty, staff, and their families with an annual household income of $60,000 or less. The deadline to submit a student health insurance waiver for the spring 2023 semester is Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023. Students who already completed a waiver for the 2022-23 academic year do not need to complete another waiver. This waiver period is only for students who were enrolled in courses during the fall 2022 semester but did not complete a waiver and would like to waive out of the student health insurance for the spring 2023 semester, or were not enrolled in courses during the fall 2022 semester but are enrolled in courses in the spring 2023 semester and would like to waive out of the student health insurance for the spring 2023 semester. If students do not complete a new waiver for the spring 2023 semester, the charge will remain on their account and they will be enrolled in the student health insurance. Learn more.
Feb. 15: Call for Participants for UNLV's Quiz Bowl
During UNLV's Quiz Bowl -- taking place Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 5-6:30 p.m. -- teams of three to five students, alumni, and faculty/staff members will compete to answer questions about history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more. Teams can sign up by Feb. 15. The winning team will receive a prize. Food and drinks will be provided. The event is sponsored by Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 100, the Graduate College, and the Honors College.
UNLV Human Resources is accepting proposals for a T-shirt design that represents campus values. The selected artist will have their design printed on T-shirts that will be distributed throughout campus and be given a $200 bookstore voucher. The opportunity is open to all students. Feb. 21: Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement Graduate Student Fellows
As part of its first peer review process of the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement, graduate students are invited to apply for one of four fellow positions to support peer reviewer teams during the first phase of reviews. Teams of three individuals will review seven to 10 applications. Graduate student fellows will schedule group review meeting(s), draft minutes for review meetings, review and edit feedback documentation reports, and participate in the discussion of applications. Feb. 28: GPSA Research Forum Call for Presenters
The Graduate & Professional Student Association (GPSA) has opened its registration portal for presenters for the 25th annual GPSA Research Forum, which will take place April 15. Presentations at any stage of the research process are being accepted, and students can give a podium talk or present a poster. Learn more and submit an abstract by Feb. 28.
March 1: Annual GPSA Awards Call for Nominations
Each year, the Graduate & Professional Student Association recognizes individuals from across disciplines and classifications at the university for their contributions to the development and continued growth of UNLV. Self- and peer-nominations will be accepted through March 1. Learn more.
March 1: Mandatory Individual Development Plan
In December, all graduate students received an email to their RebelMail account from the Graduate College about the mandatory Individual Development Plan (IDP). Students who have not yet completed their IDP should do so by the deadline set by their departments, but no later than March 1. Students progressing actively in their programs will be able to report on their 2022 accomplishments and set goals for 2023. Please note that even students in their last semester are required to complete the IDP, as the data is also used for Top Tier reporting.
March 1: Spring 2023 Graduation Application Deadline and Custom Regalia Deadline
If you’re planning to graduate this semester, the final day to submit an application for graduation through MyUNLV is March 1. If you’re graduating with a doctoral degree and would like to purchase custom academic regalia through the UNLV Bookstore, the deadline to submit an order is March 12. Learn more.
