Oct. 25: Introduction to Open Access Publishing

This workshop will introduce participants to open access article publishing including paid and free options and what choosing one or the other means for authors.
Participants will learn tips for finding open access journals and how to make their articles published in traditional subscription-based journals open access for free.

Learn how to record your first podcast episode or any voiceover recording using the technology found in the Lied Library multimedia studios.
In this workshop, you will learn
the basic skills required to record a podcast in Adobe Audition,
audio editing tips, saving, exporting, and
aditional information about multimedia resources offered by the Libraries. No previous experience is required. Learn more.
Oct. 26: Academic Job Offer and Salary Negotiation
3-4 p.m., Virtual
Salary negotiation is a cumbersome and harrowing topic to discuss with your boss or potential employer. Conversations regarding pay customarily have been discouraged early on in the interview process. Unfortunately, if it is avoided all together, we get out of practice when the topic emerges. Most would rather accept the first offer for fear of seeing it withdrawn. While academic jobs and offers differ from non-academic ones, negotiating your salary is important. Transparency about salaries and start-up packages can make workplaces more equitable, ensure you get the best compensation for your qualifications and skills, and set the trajectory for future raises.

Oct. 27: 2nd Annual President's Innovation Challenge Information Session
UNLV students are invited to learn more about the second annual UNLV President's Innovation Challenge, a multidisciplinary team competition that encourages social and business entrepreneurship to help solve major challenges. Winning teams will receive prizes from a pool of $50,000, including a grand prize of $25,000. To learn more about the competition, attend the President's Innovation Challenge Information Session.

Young Rebels Program
The Division of Educational Outreach has launched the Young Rebels program, an initiative of the Office of the President and the Office of the Executive Vice President & Provost. The Young Rebels program improves access to and awareness of more than 30 UNLV programs that give Southern Nevada youth the opportunity to begin discovering the paths that will lead to their careers. Programs across academic disciplines are available for students in elementary, middle, or high school. Registration for Young Rebels is open. Learn more.
Oct. 31: President’s Innovation Challenge Participant Interest Form Deadline
Participate in the 2nd annual UNLV President's Innovation Challenge, a multidisciplinary team competition that encourages social and business entrepreneurship to help solve major challenges in Southern Nevada and beyond, for a chance at winning a prize from the $50,000 total prize pool. This year’s challenge, which will culminate in the spring with a showcase event, focuses on sustainability but is not limited to science and engineering! Imagine a new communication platform to raise awareness of carbon impact or a game-based learning product to educate children on environmental sustainability or anything in between.

Nov. 1: FAFSA and Alternate Need Form (Priority Deadline)
Complete the FAFSA or Alternate Need Form annually by the Nov. 1 priority deadline to qualify for grants, loans, scholarships, and more. File the FAFSA at studentaid.gov/fafsa or the alternate need form (for DACA, undocumented, and international students) in
UNLV's Self Service Help Center.
The UNLV Commencement Committee is now accepting nominations for Outstanding Graduates to be recognized during the winter 2022 commencement ceremonies. Students can be nominated for outstanding academic or personal successes, including significant research work, academic performance, and community service.
Students also can be nominated for achieving their academic goals while overcoming an obstacle in life. Nominate an outstanding graduate by Nov. 30.
The Graduate College is now accepting nominations for the Outstanding Thesis/Dissertation Awards and the Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award. Each academic college may nominate one outstanding thesis, one outstanding dissertation, and one outstanding graduate student teacher. Nominations are due Dec. 1. Dec. 1: 2023-24 Scholarships and Fellowships Application Deadline
Graduate students can submit applications for merit-based scholarships and fellowships for the 2023-24 academic year until Dec. 1, 2022 through the Grad Rebel Gateway. Learn more.

Tyler Merritt is the guest speaker for the next panel discussion in the series, “We Need To Talk: Conversations on Racism for a More Resilient Las Vegas.” The series was created by the UNLV Libraries and the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs. Learn more.
The Rebel Grad Slam challenges students to a 3-minute/1-slide presentation to showcase their research to the audience and judges in a condensed and compelling way. Participants will be evaluated on how well they explain and communicate the most significant parts of their scholarship and research.
