BEST PRACTICES
Graduate College Launches Dean’s Leadership Council
Starting in 2018, the inaugural Dean’s Leadership Council members serve as Graduate College ambassadors and promote the value of graduate education as a vehicle to change lives and strengthen our community. Leadership Council members consult on Graduate College initiatives, support the Dean's efforts, collaborate to achieve Top Tier goals, and assist with fundraising to support our UNLV community of graduate students and scholars.
Our signature events – Graduate Showcase; Rebel Grad Slam; and Inspiration, Innovation, Impact – give us a chance to pause and take in all the important research our students are working on across campus. And while we host these events every year, I never tire of them because they serve as a reminder for why we’re here: to support our students as they pursue their passions, conduct research that inspires them, and create new knowledge that improves our collective future.
Graduate College Alumnus of the Year Michael Gordon, ’08 MPA, ’13 Ph.D., is a vice president at the Public Education Foundation. He came to Las Vegas from Cape Town, South Africa in September 2006 on a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship and is a double alumnus of UNLV. During his time as a student, he served three terms as president of the Graduate and Professional Student Association and in numerous other roles. He was recognized at the UNLV Alumni Awards ceremony on Oct. 18.

Thank you so much for supporting graduate students during #RebelsGive! The Graduate College received enough gifts during UNLV's inaugural giving day that our dean's challenge was unlocked, meaning an extra $15,000 will go toward graduate student research, conference and travel support this year. Every gift will make an impact in the lives of our students. Thank you again!

The Graduate College hosted the fourth annual Diversity Research and Mentorship Reception on Oct. 3. The event showcases students, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty/staff who are from diverse backgrounds and/or whose research is on diversity.
