As we approach the start of the spring semester, all of us at the Graduate College are hoping that this note finds you well. We hope you enjoyed a restful break and are looking forward to 2024, as we are. We urge you to continue to seek self care, as needed, and care for others as our campus community heals from the events of December 6.

Jan. 30: Academic Job Search Demystified Series: Preparing for a Multiple Day Interview
This workshop, from the Academic Job Search Demystified series, will focus on unpacking the academic job interview process, a pivotal stage in becoming a faculty member. By participating in this workshop, students will gain understanding of the academic interview process and expectations, learn strategies for how to confidently communicate scholarly accomplishments and pedagogical approaches, and discuss how to gracefully address common, challenging, or unexpected questions. Jan. 20: Postponed: UNLV Frosty Frolic 5K Fun Run-Walk-Spectate
The Frosty Frolic 5K walk scheduled for Jan. 20 has been postponed. Please contact the GPSA with any questions or concerns.
Feb. 2: Last Day to Add Classes With Department Permission
Departments and colleges may have shorter time frames for late registration in classes. Check with your college or department, or visit the Office of the Registrar’s website for more information.
Feb. 9: Spring 2024 Student Health Insurance Waiver
The deadline to submit a student health insurance waiver for the spring 2024 semester is Friday, Feb. 9, 2024. Students who already completed a waiver for the 2023-24 academic year do not need to complete another waiver. This waiver period is only for students who were enrolled in courses during the fall 2023 semester but did not complete a waiver and would like to waive out of the student health insurance for the spring 2024 semester, or were not enrolled in courses during the fall 2023 semester but are enrolling in courses in the spring 2024 semester and would like to waive out of the student health insurance for the spring 2024 semester. If students do not complete a new waiver for the spring 2024 semester by Friday, Feb. 9, the charge will remain on their account, and they will be enrolled in the student health insurance. UNLV students, staff, and faculty are invited to rejoin the campus community at the start of 2024 with a series of free art workshops. The museum team will lead low-stress lessons in crochet, paper dolls, button-making, and collage. Learn more.
On Tuesday, January 16, the Graduate & Professional Student Association (GPSA) and the Graduate College will host an open house where you can drop by between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and spin for swag. In addition, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. there will be donuts, coffee, and yogurt, and from 2 - 4 p.m. there will be cookies, juice, and yogurt. Learn more.
Join the UNLV Libraries to start the new semester with pups and pets. Therapy dogs from Pet Partners of Las Vegas and Love Dog Adventures will be available to anyone who wants to come by and visit them. Learn more.

Jan. 18: Presentation: Returning to the Classroom
9-10 a.m., Virtual
The Graduate College in collaboration with Dr. Kaitlin Clinnin brings you a presentation on returning to the classroom which will address principles of trauma-informed education and teaching tips and resources for your classroom. This virtual presentation will be held on Thursday, January 18th at 9 a.m. please RSVP HERE.
Academic success can be hard to navigate without basic needs items. With just a RebelCard ID or proof of a UNLV email address, students can access items such as toiletries and personal hygiene products; school supplies; bedding and linens; childcare items; clothing; household and kitchen items; and nonperishable food goods. UNLV Opera Orchestrates Second Place in NOA Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition
UNLV Opera scored second in the graduate division of the competition. The winning singing actors are DMA students Emily Dirks and Olivia Yokers, as well as MM student Alonna Younger. Congratulations!
