Sept. 8: Research and Mentoring Summit

Sponsored by the AACTE UNLV College of Education Holmes Scholars Chapter, this event is designed to support doctoral students who are interested in careers in academia. Libraries Research Impact Challenge
UNLV Libraries will host its third annual Libraries Research Impact Challenge Sept. 25-29 to help UNLV faculty, staff, and graduate students improve the impact of their research, locate useful metrics, and find potential collaborators for future research. There will be a new challenge each day during the week, and participants will be entered to win a prize package. Learn more.
Thesis/Dissertation Office Hours
Students with questions about their thesis or dissertation can take advantage of the Graduate College's thesis and dissertation office hours every Tuesday and Thursday from 12-2 p.m. Email grad.td@unlv.edu at least 48 hours in advance to schedule a virtual appointment. Learn more.

UNLV Writing Center Services
The UNLV Writing Center invites graduate students to schedule writing consultations to get feedback and support on any of their writing projects. Writing Center consultants can help students get unstuck, brainstorm and get organized to start their writing task, read through papers with students to ensure it makes sense, and more.
The Writing Center is moving to a new building, so virtual and OWL consultations will be available starting Tuesday, Sept. 5, and in-person consultations will be available after Wednesday, Sept. 13 in the Campus Resource Center, Room 216. Visit the Writing Center website for more information about consultation types, to confirm hours, to find additional writing resources, and for instructions to schedule appointments.
The final day to waive out of the student health insurance for 2023-24 is Sept. 15, 2023. Students must complete a waiver once every academic year. Waivers completed in previous years will not carry over. If students do not complete a new waiver for the 2023-24 academic year, the charge will remain on their account, they will be enrolled in the student health insurance, and they will be required to pay the cost for student health insurance. Sept. 29: Fall 2023 Graduate College Medallion Deadline
If you're graduating this semester and you've been involved in Graduate College programming during your time as a graduate student, you might be eligible for the Graduate College Medallion to wear at commencement. The Graduate College Medallion program honors exceptionally involved and high-achieving students. Learn more.
Oct. 1: Fall 2023 Graduation Application Deadline and Custom Regalia Deadline
If you’re planning to graduate this semester, the final day to submit an application for graduation through MyUNLV is Oct. 1. If you’re graduating with a doctoral degree and would like to purchase custom academic regalia through the UNLV Bookstore, the deadline to submit an order is Oct. 20. Learn more.
Oct. 4: 2024 Sam Lieberman Regents’ Award for Graduate Students
UNLV is accepting nominations of eligible active graduate-level scholars with distinguished academic accomplishments, leadership ability, and service contributions for the $5,000 NSHE Sam Lieberman Regents’ Award for Graduate Students. Nominations are due on Oct. 4 by 5 p.m. Learn more.

Sept. 6: ARPA-E Fellowship Application Information Session
1-2 p.m., Webex
The Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E), which is part of the Department of Energy, is accepting applications for its fellowship program. The agency is looking for early-career scientists and engineers who have received a STEM Ph.D. within the last five years or plan to defend within the next year. The positions are two-year, full-time, paid federal fellowships in Washington, D.C. To learn more, attend a virtual information session on Wednesday, Sept. 6. Learn more and register.
The UNLV Food Pantry offers monthly farmers markets to both UNLV and non-UNLV members of the community who may benefit from supplemental food. The next Food Pantry Farmers Market will take place on Sept. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is free to attend, and no payment will be needed to obtain food items.

Join the UNLV Graduate College to hear from Dr. Keith E. Whitfield about his professional journey to become the president of UNLV. The My Professional Origin Story series highlights the professional journeys of UNLV faculty and administrators. Origin stories matter. Take What You Need Events
Academic success can be hard to navigate when you're in need of basic items. That's why the Service Learning and Leadership team regularly hosts a Take What You Need pop-up basic needs event.
With just your RebelCard ID or proof of a UNLV email address, you can find free items such as toiletries and personal hygiene products, school supplies, bedding and other linens, childcare items, clothing, household and kitchen items, and nonperishable food. The first event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Student Union Ballroom A. Learn more.
