Apr. 5: UNLV Mental Health Initiatives: Unifying Through Innovation and Collaboration
Nevada persistently ranks at or near the bottom in the country for overall access to mental health services despite the need (Mental Health America, 2015-2023). This community forum showcases three mental health initiatives harnessing faculty collaboration and innovation to drive overdue changes in Nevada’s mental-health landscape. The 26th Annual Graduate & Professional Student Research Forum is around the corner. With over 200 presentations, this year marks the largest Forum in history. The Research Forum is an opportunity for students to present their projects to the UNLV community. The Forum is open to graduate and professional students wishing to share their research or creative expressions, practice their presentation skills, or obtain constructive comments on their work from faculty. The Forum is open to all, offering a chance to connect, learn, and be part of a community. Free English Language Tutoring Program
UNLV’s International Student and Scholar Services is offering free English Language Tutoring to all international and multilingual grad students. Tutors can assist with conversational skills, pronunciation, listening comprehension, vocabulary, reading, presentations, and grammar. Apr. 1: Annual Mandatory Individual Development Plan (IDP) Due
All degree-seeking graduate students are required to complete their Annual Mandatory Individual Development Plan (IDP) no later than April 1, 2024. In their IDPs, students report on their accomplishments in 2023 and establish goals for 2024. Please contact your faculty advisor/graduate coordinators for more information.
Late Applications for Graduation Due
Students applying for graduation on or after March 2 will need to email grad.rpc@unlv.edu to request a late graduation application be added to their MyUNLV account, as the option will not be available automatically in MyUNLV after March 1. Students applying for graduation after March 1 will be assessed a $20 late fee. Learn more.
This talk will explore the biological impact of structural violence on those who were marginalized in the United States during the Industrial Era. This will include a bioarchaeological analysis of populations from two locations: Rome, New York and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Four years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, communities continue to build a resilient and healthy Nevada. This forum will discuss how the crisis prompted communities to rethink how to lead and prepare for future challenges. Apr. 4: University Forum Lecture Series: “They Forget, We’re People Too”: Revisiting the 1969 Uprising in West Las Vegas
Join speaker Tyler D. Parry, Associate Professor of African American and African Diaspora Studies at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as he traces how uprisings against poverty, unemployment, and police brutality swept through the United States in the last half of the 1960s. Specifically, Parry will explore how protestors within Las Vegas’ majority-Black Westside initiated a similar campaign against police brutality after officers arrested two young Black men on Oct. 5, 1969. Apr. 5: Adult Learner Summit - Living Your Best Life: Balancing School, Work, and Family
Join the Adult Learner Advisory Board (ALAB) for the inaugural Adult Learner Summit. All undergraduate and graduate adult learners are welcomed, as well as non-traditional students who are navigating their way back into academia while juggling life's responsibilities. The summit will provide participants with an opportunity to connect with fellow adult learners and explore campus resources designed to provide support. Learn more and RSVP.
Apr. 5: UNLV Sociology Brown Bag Series: Sons, Daughters, and Sidewalk Psychotics
Sociologist Neil Gong's book Sons, Daughters, and Sidewalk Psychotics examines the disparity in psychiatric treatment for the rich and poor in the U.S., especially in Los Angeles, which has the largest population of unhoused individuals in the country. Public safety-net clinics provide inadequate rehabilitation for psychological distress and addiction, while the wealthy attend luxurious treatment centers. Gong's research calls for a new psychiatric system that meets the needs of all patients, families, and society.

Diverse teams of students will compete in UNLV's 3rd Annual President's Innovation Challenge. The President's Innovation Challenge is a multidisciplinary team competition encouraging social and business entrepreneurship to help solve major challenges in Southern Nevada and beyond. A panel of judges will select winners and award prizes from a $50,000 pool, including a $25,000 grand prize. Teams will present their solutions to improve student and teacher outcomes through generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other technologies.

Join the Las Vegas Alliance for Religious Freedom and Human Dignity, Thomas & Mack Co., and the William S.Boyd School of Law for a symposium about finding common ground in efforts to protect the freedom of religion and basic human dignity. The event will consist of speakers and panelists describing their experiences and answering questions or concerns.
