This workshop will give a brief overview of what's involved in creating an original research project, a brief introduction of how UNLV's research offices fit into this process, and tips for keeping your project organized and your relationship with your co-investigators successful. April 8: Medical School Application Prep
8:30-9:30 a.m., Virtual
The first step of medical school applications can be an intense and intimidating process that takes several months to prepare. The reward for enduring the application process and getting accepted is an opportunity to learn a lot, grow professionally, and increase your employability. This workshop will teach you the important steps of the application process, the essential pieces of an application, and how to increase your chance of getting accepted. You will also learn how to navigate the AAMC application portal and how to best organize your application materials.

The Graduate College is excited to raise money for graduate students during Give Rebels this week! Here's how students can get involved in UNLV's annual giving day:
Join the Graduate College and the Graduate & Professional Student Association for free pizza on April 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lied Graduate Commons. Refreshments will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If you're able, make a gift during Rebels Give and help unlock the Graduate College Fellowship Challenge! The first 100 gifts to any Graduate College fund unlocks $5,000 to create a new completion fellowship for the 2022-23 academic year. A total of 125 gifts unlocks $7,500, and a total of 150 gifts unlocks $10,000.
This year, we're raising funds to support graduate student scholarships; the Graduate Student Emergency Support Fund; The Grad Academy; graduate student research, conference, and travel funding; and the Dean’s Fund for Excellence.
Applications Open for the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities' ¡Lánzate!/Take Off! Higher Education Travel Award Program
The 18th Annual ¡Lánzate!/Take Off! Higher Education Travel Award Program is sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities in conjunction with Southwest Airlines. A selection committee consisting of national education advocates and community leaders will select the award recipients, who will be awarded eight one-way Southwest flight e-passes to use when traveling to or from their university. The complimentary e-passes can be used for travel to any of the Southwest Airlines destinations in the continental United States. Learn more and apply by April 29.
Accessible Syllabus Trainings
UNLV's Office of Accessibility Resources is offering trainings on creating accessible syllabi using Microsoft Word on April 21 and 26. Teaching graduate assistants are invited to attend. Learn more and register.
April 8: Applications due for 2022-23 Re-Entry Scholarships
UNLV’s Community2Campus office in the Division of Educational Outreach, the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Programs, and the Adult Re-Entry Scholarship Committee work with generous donors to provide financial support for students returning to higher education as adults. The various scholarships offered are meant for adults re-entering higher education after at least a three-year interruption. Additionally, applicants must be admitted into an undergraduate or graduate program, have at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and enroll in at least six credits per semester. Learn more.
May 13: Deadline to Apply to STEM Culturally Relevant and Responsive Teaching (CRRT) Fellowship
Graduate teaching assistants in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are invited to apply to participate in the Culturally Relevant and Responsive Teaching (CRRT) Fellows Program for 2022-23. This year-long fellowship will introduce graduate teaching assistants to best practices around serving an increasingly racially and ethnically diverse student body. Graduate teaching assistants interested in developing classroom practices that promote inclusion and equity are encouraged to apply. Participants will be selected through an application process, and preference will be given to those teaching critical transition courses in STEM. The graduate fellow stipend is $1,000. Apply by Friday, May 13, 2022.
How do we make Las Vegas’ economy more resilient, diversified, and sustainable? Join the UNLV Office of the President, UNLV Graduate College, UNLV Office of Economic Development, Black Fire Innovation, and the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development on April 6 at 4 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Strip View Pavilion for the inaugural President's Innovation Challenge, where you’ll hear teams of students present their innovative solutions to this question. A panel of judges will select winners and award prizes, including $20,000 for the winning team. Learn more and RSVP by April 4.
May 13: Commencement - Doctoral, Master's, Specialist, Artist Diploma, Graduate Certificates
The spring 2022 commencement ceremony for all candidates for doctoral, master’s, specialist, artist diploma degrees, and graduate certificates will be held on Friday, May 13 at 4 p.m. in the Thomas & Mack Center. Tickets are not required to attend. The ceremony will also be livestreamed. Learn more.
